Education and Training

Dr Giles Plunkett was educated at Melbourne High School and then the University of Melbourne. He received his dental degree with honours in 1977 and was awarded the Dental Board of Victoria Prize, as the most outstanding student throughout the five years of the course.

Dr Plunkett then served as a dental officer in the Royal Australian Navy, while continuing further studies at an advanced level. In 1981 he successfully completed the examinations to become a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, and was awarded the prestigious F.G. Christensen Prize for gaining the highest marks in the Primary Examination.

After wide experience in general dentistry, Dr Plunkett returned to full-time specialist training at the University of Melbourne, graduating with a Masters Degree in Orthodontics in 1987. He is a registered specialist orthodontist with the Dental Board of Australia and a full member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists.

Orthodontic Philosophy

Dr Plunkett established his orthodontic practice in 1988, focusing on the whole patient and not just the teeth or the face. He is committed to quality, providing beautifully straight teeth and healthy, happy new smiles, with a high degree of personal service. He explains all of your choices and recommends treatments he would choose for his own family. Dr Plunkett is recognised for his outstanding finished results, and his interests include effective early treatment, facial aesthetics, minimising treatment time and long-term stability.

Post-Graduate Instructor and Continuing Education

Dr Plunkett has been a senior clinical instructor in the University of Melbourne Graduate Orthodontic Program since 1999 and he enjoys donating his time, teaching the next generation of specialist orthodontists. He is an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne and continues his commitment to orthodontic education, while keeping up-to-date with the latest research and treatments.

Community Involvement

In addition to his commitment to teaching, Dr Plunkett is an enthusiastic supporter of the Australian Society of Orthodontists Give a Smile™ initiative. He enjoys giving back to the community, providing pro bono specialist orthodontic care for disadvantaged patients, who could not otherwise afford treatment.
